Merge PR #88 (JunielKatarn: native Intel macOS) into macos

#88's original commit (62b21054) conflicts with current main. The same
change, rebased onto main by danturn with the conflicts resolved, is
carried as ae1884cc (same author) at the base of #95. This merge keeps
that resolved tree exactly, so the tree is identical to ae1884cc, and
brings in #88's original head so the PR is recorded as merged.
